Vence Dillon, 73, of Arnett, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2000, in the General Division, CAMC, Charleston, Aft.er a short illness.

He was born Jan. 26, 1921, at Arnett, a son of the late Ward William Dillon and Sarah A. Bone Dillon Bonds.

He was a retired employee of Peabody and a former employee of Armco Steel Coal Mines with a total of 47 years' service; an Army veteran; a member and trustee of Arnett Chapel for 47 years, serving as youth leader, Sunday school superintendent, teacher of adult class, choir director and had also had 37 years' perfect attendance. He was a member of the Arnett Quartet and Trio.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Honaker, Ethel Dillon and two infants; a brother, Lawrence Dillon; a stepfather, Harve Bonds.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Blankenship Dillon; daughter, Sandy Simmons and husband, Edsel; and two sons, Darrin Dillon and Terry Dillon and wife, Connie, all of Arnett; sister, Ivory Allen of Fairdale; grandchildren, Mrs. Cleve (Lindsay) Honaker, Jessica and Andrew Dillon.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Arnett Chapel, Arnett, with the Rev. Timmy Brewster and the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Dillon, Brian Lovely, Kevin Lovely, Donnie Aliff, Marty Allen, Larry Allen and Gary Clay.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, and one hour Bef.ore services at the church.
