The Pre-Reunion Get Together at Kevin and Barb Breckenridge Bloxam's home on August 2, 2002 was a whole lot of fun. The evening started at 7:30 p.m. The temperature was still in the mid-nineties as classmates arrived. The sun was slowly setting behind the trees and the temperature became very tolerable. The humidity still hung in the air though which made liquid refreshments a requirement. As each classmate arrived, they were greeted with open arms and smiles from old friends. Reminiscing dominated the night. It's been five years since we've all been together, and there is a lot of catching up to do.
Barb and Kevin provided hamburgers and hotdogs for the meal. Others brought food as well. The food was layed out on several tables in the barn and was delicious. After dinner reminiscing took place again until the square dance caller, Lowell Noland, invited couples to come up to the dance floor (driveway). Some people jumped right up, but most were hesitant and needed some coaxing to get them on the dance floor. I suspect they hadn't had enough liquid refreshments yet. Eight couples finally made it to the dance floor. Lowell provided a little instruction before he started the music and started calling. When the dancing started, it was far from perfection, but was it ever fun. After two songs they all took a break. During the break some of the classmates still wanted to do some dancing, so the Lowell invited them to do some line dancing. Not everyone knew the steps, so he gave instruction and displayed the steps for the group. After two songs he again invited couples up to do some more square dancing. Again, people were a little hesitant, but eight couples made it. These were not the exact same couples that danced previously, but much fun was again had. I personally kept asking him to do some square dance calling to Led Zepplin or The Who, but it never happened. The closest song to rock & roll that Lowell played was after the dancing was done and it was the song Popcorn. After the dancing was done Barb presented awards of appreciation to Janice Cameron, Tom Dillion, Tim Baker, Wayne Farmer, Lee Durban and the rest of the reunion planning committee for all their efforts in planning the reunion weekend. Then Barb wanted group photos taken of all the classmates per the elementary school they started in. (See those photos in the coverage below.) Next was the hayride... Mike Sayre again did his superb job of driving the tractor and wagon back through Kevin and Barb's field. There was more reminiscing and a little singing on the wagon. Some people hadn't been on a hayride since high school and it was loads of fun, fun, fun... There was one other little bit of entertainment during the evening that probably was not supposed to happen, but was it ever good music to some of the men. Kevin Bloxam races a car and had moved it out of the barn to a side yard prior to everyone arriving, so the tables of food could be in the barn. Some of the guys had been talking that they would like to hear the car run. It was said that if Ken Chase could get in the car, he could start it. Ken didn't hesitate at all. He jumped in the car and seconds later the car was started. After a couple revs and raps Ken turned it off. The car sounded great! Kevin got into a little trouble with Barb until it was found out that he did not start the car. Everyone had a good laugh.
