MY NOTE: Samuel and Edith Perdue could not have been married after 1810. Not if their sons William and James were born before 1792. It is my conjecture they had the boys prior to Samuel marrying Chloe Farley in 1784.

I have the following info on this family, but would like to revisit with additional info that some of you may have. Although this has been an often researched line, there is still a great deal of uncertainty about Samuel's parents. Please let me know if you have anything to add, confirm, or refute.

Thanks,

Samuel James DILLON was the son of (____?) James DILLON and Mary

Born: about 1758 in Goochland County, Virginia, United States.

Died: 1836 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States. (572) (573)

Residence: 1786 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States. Personal property taxes paid on two horses and five head of cattle.

Residence: 1787 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States. Personal property taxes paid on two horses and four head of cattle.

Census: 1810 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States. Per Phyllis Laborde, there were five children, on boy under 10, who could have been Samuel Jr., one boy 10-16 could have been Jesse who married in1814, and a boy 16-26, probably Thomas, a girl 10-16, probably Rebecca, and a girl under 10, probably Jane. There were five slaves.

Census: 1820 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States. There were two children living at home. One boy 10-16, (probably Samuel), and a girl 16-26, (probably Jane). There were four persons engaged in agriculture, one male slave under 14, and two female slaves 14-26. (25)

Military: 1783 in Montgomery County, Virginia, United States. Samuel was a Revolutionary War Veteran. He was listed as a private in the 1783 Militia lists in Montgomery County, Virginia, United States, with Capt. George Pearis, Commanding Officer. Phyllis Laborde submitted a DAR supplemental on his service, which was verified.

Notes: The relationship between this Samuel (m. Chloe) and James was conjecture by Phyllis Laborde. She also suggested a number of other connections, but this one seems the most reasonable to me at this time. Any info that confirms or refutes this connection would be appreciated. Greg Tucker supplied the middle name James, and although he has his parents as William DILLON and Mary Robinson, another possible connection proposed by Laborde, the middle name James would seem to lend credence to the connection to James.

Spouse: Chloe FARLEY. They were married in 1784.

Children:
1. Meredith DILLON Sr., born in 1779.
2. Jesse DILLON, born in 1785 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States.
3. Squire DILLON, born in 1785 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States.
4. McCager DILLON, born on 20 May 1786 in Greenbrier, Franklin County, Virginia, United States.
5. Rebecca DILLON, born in 1798 in Rocky Mount, Franklin County, Virginia, United States.
6. Thomas Jackson DILLON, born about 1799 in Virginia.
7. Jane DILLON, born about 1801 in Franklin County, Virginia, United States.
8. Samuel DILLON Jr., born in 1803.

In Reply to: DILLON (Ohio, United States Illinois) by: Mike Schubert

Hey Mike,
Do you have any information on the earlier DILLON's? Because most of our info. begins with the family that had migrated to the US. I am looking through the book of genealogy that we have and I am not finding a Nathan DILLON, but this book only traces the fathers mothers and children down to my grandfather, instead of tracing all of the families children to whom they married and what not, (thats a little confusing) but if you have any other names you know of, I bet I could find them in one of the many books I have on the DILLON's. Main names that we have are Samuel DILLION(then spelled ion), his son Meredith DILLION (Samuel's other children :Micajah, Squire, Jesse, Rebecca, thomas and Samuel) had then moved to Missouri, that is when the name changed to DILLON, dropping the second 'i'. Meridith married Mary Magdalinar (called Polly) Ryherd daughter of Adam. To our findings the first Samuel mentioned above is the son of a Samuel, who had moved here (most likely) from Ireland. Well I hope this long msg helps you, and I hope to here from you soon. Sorry for any confusion.
