Questions:

If this Henry DILLON was the first of our family to settle in Virginia, how could he have been born in Virginia?

Danny DILLON writes on his webpage - About This Site:

"Personally, I believe Henry's father to be the ancestor of all Protestant DILLON's that can trace back to very early 18th century Virginia. This is based primarily on an absence of Henry's contemporary DILLON's and of known 17th century DILLON emigrants. The closest thing I have found is one Henry Dawlen, who is listed in the 1607-1776 Book of Emigrants (England-United States), as well as the 1624 Virginia census of the Virginia Colony Parish (pop 92). Since my Henry had significant land holdings in 1689, the odds are good that he was either an emigrant or the first-born son of one. Perhaps it was Henry Dawlen, we may never know."

Pg. 37 William Murphree, who may have been identical with William Murphue and William Murphee, was on the "Committee on Propositions and Grievances" of the Lower House of the North Carolina Legislature in 1760. Maurice and James MOORE, James Mackilwean, Thomas McGuire, and one Cummings, were some of his fellow-members of the committee. James Dunlevy was Sergeant-at-Arms of the House, while Henry Delon--(also spelled Dilon) ---was Assistant Clerk.

"The ancestors of Arthur Orison DILLON's grandfather, Thomas DILLIN have not been definitely proven. Arthur recorded the best data he could get. This family was Protestant and was either of English or Welsh extraction. In the seventeenth century two brothers came to America; one of the brothers, probably John DILLON, was an explorer and colonizer and received large grants of land for colonization purposes in New York and Nova Scotia. He lived in New York and died a bachelor and intestate, and his lands upon his death reverted to the English Crown. The other brother was a planter and settled in Virginia."

"It is thought that Henry DILLON, probably the first of the name to settle in Virginia, was our immigrant ancestor. Tradition says that our immigrant ancestor settled in Virginia sometime in the seventeenth century. Henry DILLON was in Virginia at an early date. According to the register of St. Peter's Episcopal Parish and Vestry Book, Henry DILLON or DILLIN was a resident of New Kent County, Virginia in 1689. His wifes name was Eleanor. Two of his children were baptized in the parish, to-wit: Nitt on August 1, 1689, and Margaret on March 15, 1690. He was a planter and owned large tracts of land in New Kent, Caroline and King William Counties, Virginia. Years ago the court house in New Kent County was destroyed by fire and all the records of his estate in that county were destroyed.

His Children:

Nitt DILLON or DILLIN.
Margaret DILLON or DILLIN.
William DILLON or DILLIN, probably.
Thomas DILLON or DILLIN, probably.
Henry DILLON or DILLIN, probably."
