Hi Tom, thanks for the post. I live in Texas, but just now I'm in Virginia for Christmas. I dropped by the Roanoke City library last week to do a little genealogy research.
My wife was a Forbes before marriage and so I research that line also. I found a multi-volume set of old genealogy papers called the Rainey collection that was very extensive (in the families of Franklin, Bedfoed, and Campbell).
I looked up FORBES and found a lists for John FORBES born 1765. I claimes that he moved from Fluvanna County to Franklin in 1790, and settled on Gills Creek. Other sources at the library, such as court records and deeds of neighbors confirm this date.
According to this list, Peter B. FORBES, b. 1799-1800, was his son. It claims that he married Sarah R. DILLON (daughter of Henry and Joanna Pasley DILLON), born 29 Oct 1804, -- married on 20 Mar 1825. She died 11 Apr 1852.
Peter was the brother of my wife's ancestor, Thomas J. Forbes, born 1801-1802.
Thomas married Elizabeth DILLON on 29 June 1825.
I have additional data on Thomas but records are in TX.
The lists gives two wives and 10 children for John Forbes, b. 1765. First wife is Sarah R., and I guess she was Sarah Reeves because the first-born daughter was named Sarah Reeves Forbes, born unknown.

I presume that, either these last children were from John Forbes second wife, Agnes born c1784, or that they are mistakenly attributed to him (because the are so late).
