Ball Died Tuesday Mrs. Sarah J. Ball, age 87 of Plain City died at her home at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday after a long illness. She was born March 29, 1864 in Madison County, the daughter of Nelson and Cilpha (Thomas) Shephard, both deceased. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lucy Tobin; a son, Hayes Ball; two brothers, Wilbur and Frank Shephard; and two sisters, Mrs. Vannie Stewart and Mrs. Josephine Sherwood. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Plain City Methodist Church. Interment will be in Forest Grove Cemetery. In charge, Jay Ferguson, funeral director of Plain City. Unknown Newspaper May 1951 Sarah Jane, daughter of Nelson and Zelpha Shepard was born in Madison County, near Gillivan, Ohio, on March 29, 1864, and departed this life at the home of her sister, Mrs. Josie Sherwood on Converse Avenue in Plain City, at nine o-clock on Tuesday, May 22, 1951, aged 87 years, 1 month, and 20 days. She and her twin sister were the oldest of eleven children. On March 4, 1884 she was united in marriage with Abraham Ball who preceded her in death 25 years ago. To this union was born seven children, two of whom are still living. Following her marriage she moved to Plain City and made it her home for the ensuing 60 years. She leaves to mourn her loss, her daughter, Mrs. Lucy Tobin of Plain City; her son, Hayes Ball of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Josie Sherwood, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Vannie Stewart of Springfield; two brothers, Mr. Frank Shepard of Springfield and Mr. Wilmer Shepard of Columbus; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; neices, nephews, and hosts of friends and neighbors.
