Vence Dillon, 73, of Arnett, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2000, in the General Division, CAMC, Charleston, after a short illness.

Born September 11, 1926, at Arnett, he was the son of the late Ward William Dillon and Sarah A. Bone Dillon Bonds.

Mr. Dillon was a retired employee of Peabody and a former employee of Armco Steel Coal Mines with a total of 47 years service; an Army veteran; a member and trustee of Arnett Chapel for 47 years, serving as youth leader, Sunday school superintendent, teacher of adult class; choir director and had also had 37 years perfect attendance. He was a member of the Arnett Quartet and Trio.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Honaker and Ethel Dillon, and two infants; a brother, Lawrence Dillon; and his stepfather, Harve Bonds.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Phyllis Blankenship Dillon; a daughter, Sandy Simmons and husband, Edsel; and two sons, Darrin Dillon and Terry Dillon and wife, Connie, all of Arnett; a sister, Ivory Allen of Fairdale; and grandchildren, Mrs. Cleve (Lindsay) Honaker, Jessica and Andrew Dillon.

Friends called 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, and may call one hour before services today at the church. Services will be 1 p.m. today in the Arnett Chapel, Arnett, with the Reverends Timmy Brewster and Larry Brown officiating. Pallbearers will be Derrick Dillon, Brian Lovely, Kevin Lovely, Donnie Aliff, Marty Allen, Larry Allen and Gary Clay.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
