James M. Shimp, 82, of Baltimore, died April 10, 2000.

Born February 19, 1918, he was a member of the Etna United Methodist Church and Gideons International. Retired farmer from the South West Licking School District.

Survived by his wife, Viola Shimp; son, Robert (Deanna) Shimp of Carmel, Indiana; daughter, Bonnie (John) Riley of Petersburg, Ohio; step-sons, Reverend Richard (Barbara) Smyers of Newark and William (Mary) Smyers of Pataskala; step-daughters, Patricia (Hans) Hansmann of Germany and Shirley (James) Wears of Johnstown; sisters, Mildred Snider of Etna, Pauline (Nelson) Trimmer of Millersport and Marvine (Neal) Weaver of Pickerington; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Olive Trimmer in 1957; parents, James F. and Maude Shimp; 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 step-son.

Friends may call at Warren F. Kauber Funeral Home, Pataskala on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Gideon Memorial Service starting at 8:00 p.m. Service will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2000, 10:00 a.m. at Etna United Methodist Church in Etna with Reverend Ray Kane and Reverend Ralph DeLong officiating.

Interment Union Evangelical Cemetery in Baltimore, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Gideon Memorial Bibles or Etna United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
