Sarah Viola Shimp, 100, formerly of Baltimore, passed away early Thursday, February 8, 2024.

She was born December 9, 1923, in Fairfield County, the daughter of the late Floyd and Tessa L. (Fausnaugh) Good. She worked for many years in food service at SW Licking Schools.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (James) Wears; her son, Bill Smyers; and step-son, Bob Shimp; her fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including niece, Betty Sauls.

An active member of the Etna High Point Church, where she had led the Youth Fellowship, led and sang in several choirs and helped to establish the Oasis Senior citizens at Etna. She was a long-time supporter of Gideons International.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Harland Smyers in 1956 and James Shimp in 2000; her son, John Smyers; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Barbara) Smyers; her daughter, Pat (Hans) Hansmann; her step-daughters, Bonnie (John) Riley, Dee Shimp; her daughter-in-law, Mary Smyers; and a grandson, Chase Sharrett.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Etna High Point Church, 500 Pike Street SW, Etna, Ohio 43018.

A private family burial will follow on Monday, February 19th in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to Gideons International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington DC 20090-7251.

The family wants to thank the staff at Alter care of Thornville, for their skilled care and many kindnesses shown to Viola.
