Mahala Carle, daughter of Thomas J. and Margaret Ann Dillion, was born in Franklin County, Virginia, March 16, 1888 and departed this life, February 28, 1917, being 78 years 11 months and 13 days old.

She was the fifth child of a family of ten children. In 1858 she was united in marriage to William Prunty and this union was blessed with three children. When the Civil War broke out Mr. Prunty volunteered to join the Army, but unfortunately he lost his life on March 19, 1862, in Tennessee.

Mrs. Prunty was again married to Joseph Price in 1870 and this union was blessed with four children, three children having preceded their mother to the great beyond. Mr prive died in 1898.

Mrs. Price then lived with her children until 1904, when she was again married to G. W. Carle, of Bookwater, Ohio, whom she lived happy until her death.

She leaves to mourn her loss an aged husband, four children: Mrs. J. W. Price, of Springfield. Jess of Columbus; Arthur, of Springfield; and Mrs. John Gordon, of South Solon; also two sisters: Mrs. Henderson Dillion, of Lafayette; and Mrs. A. H. Hornbeck, of South Solon, Ohio. Grandma Carle, as she was called, will be sadly missed by one and all.

"Dreaming of the days gone by,
So dear to memory,
As how childhood happy days
We played at mother's knee.

When the night shades gather'round
And all the world seems drear.
Sweet old stories she'd unfold
The linger still so dear.

Years haved passed, still remains
A picture sweet and rare,
'Tis blended with a thought of love,
And breathes a mother's prayer."
